At Height has developed two unique carabiners. During tree work, it’s not uncommon for a carabiner to be used to “choke” a rope. In such cases, the carabiner can end up diagonally against the tree. It’s a position that it wasn’t originally designed for, introducing potential risks and accelerated wear.
The Choker HMS by At Height is built tough and specifically tested for horizontal or flat positioning against the trunk. In this choked configuration, the breaking strength reaches an impressive 40 kN. Along the major axis, the breaking strength is 50 kN. With a gate opening of 24 mm and a Tri-lock closure system, the Choker is designed to handle the most demanding conditions. It measures 133x100x20 mm.
The Chokers are available in two colours. The product page your looking at is the Green Coloured carabiner. While the carabiners are technically identical, the colour difference helps distinguish between applications. According to the user instructions, the green Chokers are designated for use as PPE, while the red versions are intended for rigging work. The coloured coatings are unique, as applying a durable finish to this type of material is typically challenging—most carabiners remain uncoated. These special double coatings (green and red) are scratch-resistant and significantly extend the product’s lifespan.
